South Canterbury Returned & Services Association

ANZAC Day kicks off with our Dawn Service at the Cenotaph on Queen Street (near Timaru Hospital) at 6 a.m.  Here we remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom and way of life.  There will be the opportunity for you to lay your poppy at this memorial following the service.

The Cemetery Services immediately follows the service at the Cenotaph.  It is held at the Timaru Cemetery on Domain Avenue, Timaru.  At this service we remember those who returned home from war and who are no longer with us.

Returned and Service men and women and their families are welcome to return to the SC RSA on Wai-iti Road to enjoy a warm and tasty breakfast after the Dawn Service.

The Civic Service will be held at the Sound Shell at Caroline Bay.   This will commence at 10 a.m. with a national two minutes silence, followed by the parade past the Field of Remembrance (over 1,100 white crosses have been made representing every man and woman from South Canterbury who perished in WWI) and flyovers courtesy of the SC Aero Club.  There will be hymns, speakers and we will have our wreath laying ceremony at this service.

Our thanks to the Timaru District Council and the Caroline Bay Association for their support for this year's commemmorations.

It was pleasing to see so many pop into the SC RSA following the Civic Service and throughout the day where they enjoy the friendly and relaxed atmosphere of the Club.  The bar and restaurant are open all day.

Alice Sollis of local band The Drama Queens will entertain visitors to the Club with a one hour show.

The restaurant opens at 11.30 a.m. and will stay open all day providing lunch, afternoon tea and dinner, closing at 8 p.m.

There won’t be a Kiwi who does not understand the significance of ANZAC Day.  We see it every year with the increasing numbers of people who turn up at the Dawn Service.  It is brilliant seeing the numbers of children there at 6 a.m.

Last year we had close to 2,500 people attend the Civic Service at the Soundshell and the parade gets bigger each year as various community groups join in.

Please do call the Club on 688 4123 and let Michelle know if you would like your group to join in the parade.  It make it a little easier for our parade marshal if he has some idea of the numbers likely to attend.

Please mark the date in your diary now and come along and join with your community in remembering those who have gone before us.

'We Will Remember Them'.

Remember, anyone can join the RSA. Just pop into the office or bar and fill out the appropriate form and you become an instant member.  After being confirmed by the Executive, you will join the other 1,700 members in what we believe is the friendliest Club in town. It's that easy!!
