Sky TV

Sky TV gives our members an assortment of channels to watch. From the ever popular sport channels to history and Discovery. Something for most tastes.

Poppy Restaurant

Our dining room is well patronised and continues to offer members and guests an excellent and varied menu.  Feedback has been extremely positive and we aim to build on that. Remember, as the seasons change, so will the menu.

Nothing over $24, lots of Gluten Free options and plenty for the children to choose from.

Adjuncts/Sections/Interest Groups

These are mentioned elsewhere. Please go to Club Sections for details.

Pool and Snooker tables

altWe currently have two brand new Pot Black pool tables and three snooker tables.

We regularly host the RSA South Island snooker pairs competition which is very successful for players and our Club.

The pool tables are used daily and are free for members. If pool or snooker is your passion, come along and have a game.

Music and entertainment

altAs you will see from our Upcoming Events tab, the Club provides an excellent line up of bands and other activities throughout the year.

If you enjoy dancing, come along on Saturday night when one of regular bands will be playing.  Or try our FREE lessons hosted by the popular and enthusiastic Rock and Roll Sectiion.  This very proactive section like to put on party nights, providing entertainment FREE for your enjoyment

If you aren’t sure what’s coming up, check out the table talkers in the Club.

Check out the notice board for the next special event coming your way.  These include the ever popular Rock and Roll Friday night theme nights and shows like the Hypnotist, Male Revue or Yulia.

Group outings

altThe Sports and Social section of the Club host a number of outings throughout the year. These vary from day trips to a rugby match to a weekend away.

Our Wine Club also host a number of interesting trips throughout the year. Another busy section which is well patronised by members of the Club.

altThe Poppy Bar and Diggers Bar are the hubs of the Club, along with our busy restaurant of course.

Our prices are very competitive and we pride ourselves on pouring the best draught in the city. We are continually told that our beers taste excellent, and the reason is, we consistently maintain our gear including our beer lines. The other reason is, our kegs are turned over frequently. Fresh is best! Help yourself to a chilled jug or handle from the chiller at the end of the bar.We have a 60” television in the Diggers Bar for entertainment and watching sports like the Rugby or cricket  and a 55" television in the Poppy Bar.  We have a lovely patio bar area for those long and glorious summer days.

We need you to enjoy yourself. Now's a good time!

altWe have an excellent gaming room featuring a selection of the most popular games. The gaming area is cool in the summer and very pleasant in the winter.

There are always weekly promotions at the bar and ongoing raffles.  Whether you are in to win a commemorative Warriors ANZAC Day 2015 test jersey or a gift basket there is always some way to get involved.  And of course every Tuesday, Friday and Saturday there are meat, cash, oyster, chocolate and biscuits on offer and occasionally petrol or grocery vouchers.

Around and about the RSA

A tree planting tradition began with Governors’ Bush on the south side of the Club building.  Here you will find trees planted by various dignatories over the years.  Each tree is protected.

A  25-pounder gun is mounted at the entrance to the grounds, a reminder of the part played by NZ Artillary regiments and of the Army’s principal artillery piece from 1941 to 1977.

Visitors to the Club will find a selection of framed photographs, many reminders to the part played by Kiwis in action. The photographs are also reminders of those who returned. A photo and bibliography of Lord Sam Elworthy hangs in the Poppy Bar.  He was a member of this Club and a highly decorated WWII veteran.
